lists

hmm. i wonder how things get so far off course? somewhere along a conversation with an old friend about nuclear power plants and other political matters, i remebered a few things i wanted to do before i died or got married... whatever comes first.
1. Sky dive
(ok very expensive and if i do get a chance to do it ill really do it -- once. ask anyone who knows me. ask me a second time and ill tell you im not that crazy)
2. climb a mountain
(this is actually quite reachable. in fact it only got delayed because my companions are now happily married and parents so i have to look for other companions or wait till luna grows up)
3. swim with sharks and whales.
( palawan here i come :) and im sure dawn will come with me and make sure im not eaten)
4. write a novel
(whole novel and hopefully get it printed)
5. write a short story collection
( in the works hehe hope its just good enough )
6. win a palanca
(yes, i know to actually have a chance to win i must first join-- i knew that)
7. write a play
( fun play and held in a real stage by real actors )
8. walk the entire length of the Great Wall of China
( seriously the bnext time i go to China, i will walk and i won't care if nobody comes walk with me for 15 hours *sniff* )

with the exception of 1 and 8 its a pretty simple list. normal too. just wanted to kill time. sorry.

infant matricide or just one really naughty baby

Posted by Hello This is the latest shot of Cel's and Cos's baby while she tries to kill her mom with a big plastic ax. isn't that adorable in a psychotic baby kind of way.
she's my favorite godchild and the only one that actually makes me jealous of people who are married...
I was never really the romantic type certainly not the marrying type. My Wedding Fantasy Barbie (yes :0 i had one. my aunt gave it to me for some strange reason. i wanted a chemistry set but no...) was the only one that never attended a wedding.
Strange though... I don't hate it. I just don't wish for it.
Though it usually are the things you don't wish for that make you happier.

oh and i coined a phrase i don't understand -- leap before you jump.
but i really want to use it.

as much as i want to write stories i'm so terribly afraid someone will start getting my stories (or storylines) and claim it as their own. it scares the hell out of me.
which is assuming too much. 1. that people will think my stories are really good and 2. there are a lot of people reading this blog.

hmmm.

arrogance is a bitch.

i'll start tomorrow.

waiting

Finally, this picture comes from the official website. :)
Unfortunately, we still have to wait for the official release on december 14. However, for people like me who really can't wait and live far far away from any store that will actually sell these things, preordering starts on October 1.

sin city

for those of you who are avid comic book readers you'll be happy to find out that Constantine (Hellblazer) is not the only comic book adaptation to look forward to next year. there's Sin City, which is a Frank Miller series. There are several nice things about this movie.
One, it's directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez.

Two, it's got a great cast. (Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Maria Bello, Kate Bosworth, Josh Hartnett, Benicio del Toro, Brittany Murphy, Elijah Wood, Clive Owen, Rosario Dawson, Rick Gomez)-- to name a few.

Three, the cinematography is amazing if you can check out the long (33MB) trailer, you'll see what I mean.

Four, the movie is as close to the original as you can get. (well that's what they say)

Five, it's going to be released on my birthday next year.

ok, that last one was personal. I hope the link still has the trailer. I couldn't find it again when I last visited it.

extended rotk dvd and temporary boyfriends

yup. finally some news about the Return of the King Extended Edition DVD Box Set. If my eyes don't deceive me it includes a miniature of Minas Tirith which is so cool it might actually be better than the Pillars of Argonath bookends. Release date is supopose to be December 14. Don't take my word for it though since this didn't come from the lord of the rings official site.
can't wait.

lonely, tired of being alone with no one to hug you? introducing the one and only : boyfriend pillow. :)

yup. it even has a vibrating alarm clock somewhere, which they claim is for waking people up ;)
and it comes from... you guessed it.. japan.
for the guys, don't worry you have your game character body pillows adn of course your fhm pillows. i can't find it on the net (yeah i'm a girl i can't let my officemates see me looking for that) but i'm sure a quick visit to fhm will do the trick.

traffic and mind reading devices

i went home early (early for me is 7pm) last tuesday.
big mistake.
i forgot to look at the traffic situation and i hoped for the best.
always a bad combination.
after 30 minutes of traffic and i was not even halfway the distance to my destination i declared that traffic was now bordering on idiocy.
granted i work far from home( i work in alabang and live in quezon city : around 40 min with the normal traffic, 1 hr 30 for heavy traffic and maybe 35 min if you drive real fast and there's absolutely no traffic ) it still didn't make sense.
there was a research claiming that one of the major causes of traffic ( other than accidents and major disasters ) are cars that just slow down. yes it is true. i tried to search for it but i can't find it. They observed the national highways in the United States and they even had simulations.
and you can actually prove this by observation. on my way to work, im lucky enough not to experience traffic in the expressway (if you're really early, you'll know what i mean). the traffic is always in the opposite lane, so on my way here i noticed that from magallanes to bicutan ( the first exit going south from magallanes ) the opposite lane was clear. just after bicutan, traffic is so bad the cars are slowly making their way to bicutan. the reason? the cars in front wee driving slow. that's it. no accidents, no disabled vehicles, not even a bottleneck.

so i learned from my mistake and started to look at the traffic situation before i go.
i am then faced with a new challenge... distinguishing between pile up, build up or tightening up. Deciding whether a slow drive is better than slow moving or if 'crawling' means you shouldn't go now.
they should try to make it into more practical descriptions like :

car speed average 30 kph
or
you could run faster than the cars
or
walking to your destination will get you there faster
or
if you have a bad heart and high blood pressure : DON'T DRIVE.

the problem with developing stories in mind while driving is you can't write it down. when i finally do get a notebook, it seems different.

i need a mind reading machine.
:) a quick google showed me that researches have started to use these machines to help the disabled and as security measures.
which doesn't help me yet. i need a program that translates the words in my mind to paper. dream machines are also good. i've written so many novels in my mind i probably have my own shelf in lucien's library. (for those who don't know lucien, or the library of unwritten books look for Sandman by Neil Gaiman for DC Vertigo)

in the meantime, i'm stuck with my notebook.

road kill and parallel universes

I may have killed a bird yesterday. I'm not sure, because I didn't hear a thud ( well it was just a small bird ). I did see a bird in front of my car diving to his doom and perhaps the body of a the same bird lying on the ground as I drove away. I did not stop the car to see if he was moving and I did not drive him to the hospital. I went to work. There were no witnesses.
Like I had a sign above my car that said, "Accidents that happen around this car are fun", something happened to me that night.
I was driving home from a friend's despidida party and a car almost hit us from behind. We were on buendia road, just as we were about to go to up the flyover to Edsa. It was a good thing I saw him, let him pass and slowed down so we wouldn't be that close to him. The driver was obviously drunk. As if that wasn't enough, just as he was about to go on the flyover, he suddenly swerves to the right, where his rear left tire goes up the end of the flyover and he even hits some posts at the other side of the road. I hope he actually got sober after that. My friends joked that an explosion would have been more fun though I doubt they knew just how bad an explosion at close range would have been to us.
I mentioned this because I was playing with the idea of parallel universes as the theme of my story for this friday. (I had planned to write one to commemorate the occasion... So far I've written 0 words.) I can only remember one other recent event that made me realize that somewhere, in a parallel universe, one version of me died.
What's worse, I imagine a day when I'm the one that doesn't get lucky at the right moment, and at the same time another version of me feels that somewhere, another version of her has died.

the wonders of torrents

we can stop to discuss the technical details of this but i don't think people would like that. torrents provide a way to "share" files over the internet much like kazaa. except torrents are often faster.in kazaa, you download files from just one person, the person who has the file at the time you selected the download. you depend on that computer to stay connected to kazaa as long as it takes so you can download the fle completely.torrents have a better way of sharing files. each person that starts to download can also upload to other computers, you don't have to wait for your download to be complete.all i know is it makes downloading anime and tv episodes faster and easier. i can also download movies and whole cds hehe i can feel the copyright people grinding their teeth. I love it coz i can download the Calcium kid (or Ned Kelly) and all the other movies that will never make their way here in the Philippines ( i really think people in greenhills will finally find rest from all my weird inquiries ).
for more info go here and oh, by the way, if you live in a place that has strict laws, be wary of your internet usage because they can trace you. No matter how old you are, they can get you. just read this article about a twelve year old girl in the US.

better now than never

i started a blog, this blog, yesterday.
i also wrote this really long post titled: " a few short introductions" and i thought it was witty and great. then i read it again and the magic was lost.
then i realized... who did i think was going to read this? my friends? which friends?
that didn't sound right. im not alone in the world or anything.
so lets be more specific: which group of friends?
conservative, non conservative or quill?
close, not so close and people i don't even want to talk to but can't tell them?
the ones i call for gimiks or the ones i talk to about games and writing or other such topics that cannot be talked about in such a public manner?
of course i also didn't want them to come visit ( if they ever would bother ) and realize they shouldn't have bothered.
i just want to write.
i want people to read what i wrote so i don't bother neal or other people with all my words of "wisdom" (this is relative) everyday.
so i went to my friendster account, into the land of useless surveys and friends.
(actually i wrote another long introduction in my notebook last night, this time heartwarming and reminiscent of my past but i don't have the time to read my handwriting and type it. plus, i have to work...)
i got one particularly nice survey and answered it.
prepare yourselves, this is a long one.

NAME: pia
DO YOU THINK YOU'RE NORMAL: nope
DO PEOPLE FIND YOU STRANGE: yup
DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD: yup
DO YOU SIN A LOT: yup tho i try hard not to... sometimes
DO YOU BACKSTAB: nope. don't want to stoop that low.
ARE YOU A GOOD FRIEND:yup yup yup. though i'm not good at keeping in touch with them.
ARE YOU IN LOVE:yup. hmmm.(kidding!) yup.
ARE YOU YOUNG:i will never be old. i plan to be immortal someday. how i am going to do that is a secret ;)
EVER BEEN A LEADER OF SOMETHING:yup ( formal events, informal events and crazy events)
EVER KILLED A LIVING CREATURE:ants, cockroaches, flies, some insects bigger than cockroaches, worms, no reptiles yet, no mammals either though i was an accomplice in the death of some mice and a huge rat.
LAST ODD THING DONE:having an argument with someone who doesn't understand what i'm saying.
DO YOU WEAR MAKE-UP:nope. i'm allergic and i don't know how to put it.
DO YOU REBEL:yup, in small ways and occassionally in big ways as well.
EVER STARTED A FIRE:small fires to burn small things and big fires to burn big things :)
DO YOU THINK YOU'RE EVIL:i want to believe i'm inherently good but i know i'm capable of being evil.
DO YOU LIKE CHEATERS:nope. i cheated too you know but only on assignments and lab reports(pisay people understand), never on anything big like exams. funny story, my very first encounter with a cheater was when i was 8. We were taking a quiz and i noticed someone was copying my answers. so i made sure all my answers were wrong and finished early. when i saw him pass his papers (after copying my answers)i corrected all the wrong answers and passed my paper. too bad for him i got perfect on that exam. yes it was nasty but my parents haven't taught me what to do with cheaters yet so i had to improvise.ok.. i may not be so inherently good after all...
DO YOU REGRET:nope. immortals don't regret. good and bad experiences come anytime. good and bad decisions are made. if you regret, you will always have a bad past. instead of just a past.
DO YOU HAVE A BESTFRIEND:yup yup. different levels too. ok i don't have just one best friend, i have lots :)
DO PEOPLE HATE YOU:yeah they probably do. they probably have reason to hate me.
DO YOU HATE PEOPLE:i rarely hate people. unless they really get on my nerves and when they do even the way they breathe gets on my nerves.
CAN YOU KILL SOMEBODY:just because i hate them probably not. to save myself and people i love or just care about ( two different things ) i would kill without hesitation.
DO YOU CUT YOURSELF?:nope. i've never drawn my own blood intentionally. blades and knives suddenly become dull when they touch my skin.
EVER TASTED BLOOD:yup. mine mostly. other people's blood occassionally...
DO YOU CARE WHAT OTHERS MAY THINK OF YOU?:when i was really young, i did. then i learned that it was too much power for other people to have over me so i stopped giving them that power.
ARE YOU GOTHIC:yes. though my appearance never convinces people. i always look "nice" even when i'm mad.
DO YOU SMOKE:nope. yuck. though it depends on what needs to be smoked.
CONSUME DRUGS:good question.... what do you mean by consume? ;)
WHAT DO YOU WEAR:when i feel like i need to be "pretty" (this is all relative) i dress up in cute blouses and jeans. otherwise i wear shirts and shorts and rubber shoes!this applies to work days as well.
DO YOU LIKE THE SUN:i don't have anything against it but i can't walk under it with my eye wide open ( my eyes are just slits) even if it's not a sunny day. it's one of the reasons my sister believes i'm a vampire.
HAVE YOU LOST SOMEONE YOU LOVE:lots of dogs, because they had to be given away but there was one who died in my arms, wolfie, because someone fed him fish. i stayed with him the night he died.
HOW DOES GRIEF FEEL:like i want to write about it.
YOUR ROLE MODEL:neil gaiman. he who writes whole novels in notebooks even if he has a laptop computer and realizes that snow white is really a vampire deserves a special place in my life.if i can be just as prolific as he is,(rich and famous as he is right now is good too) i'll be happy.
YOUR HEART DESIRES TO BE WITH WHOM:everyone i'm with right now.
YOUR LISTENING TO:loud aircon noises, keyboard tappings and lots of anime songs, matchbox 20 and eraserheads (for the good old days).
DO U HATE YOURSELF:only when i do really stupid things i can't undo.
EVER GET DRUNK? :once, in the middle of the casino floor of the Sahara in Las Vegas. With my aunt panicking because she couldnt leave her huge bucket of quarters to call someone since we were in las vegas and i wasn't in the right condition to protect it.i was so drunk i hit my head on the slots :) i sobered up like 15 min after that. those were really great drinks, zombie and long island ice tea. here in the philippines those drinks taste like juice. i wonder where we get the recipe?
